The Capitol Reef Reader

My book, The Capitol Reef Reader, has arrived in bookstores!  I'm in love with the project, and it feels like I've been gearing up for it my whole adult life. You can listen to an interview I've done with National Parks Traveler here.  And you can read an excerpt (with photographs!).

I've been "on tour" with the book, sometimes joined by some of the nearly 50 other writers in my anthology. I spoke at the 2020 Utah Historical Society annual conference with two other editors of books in the University of Utah national park reader series (the three of us bringing stories from Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands). Fred Swanson (author of Wonders of Sand and Stone) and I talk about the history of Utah's national parks for Weller Book Works.

I was in Colorado in January 2020, with a memorable night in the IMAX theater at the glorious Denver Museum of Nature and Science. On my way to and from Denver from Salt Lake City, I read in Grand Junction at Out West Books and at two libraries in western Colorado, Glenwood Springs and Silt.

Now that bookstores can't do live readings, you'll have to rely on this online reading from The Capitol Reef Reader--shared with the Go Learn community (the University of Utah travel program). Enjoy!

We've also held events at the Entrada Institute in Torrey, The King's English in Salt Lake City, Back of Beyond Books in Moab, and at the Boulder (Utah) Community Center (sponsored by Grand Staircase Escalante Partners).

I'll provide details on other readings as we schedule them. Join us! And please contact me if you would like to schedule a reading.

Our brilliant designer, Jessica Booth, transformed my photograph of the Temple of the Sun into this retro WPA version for our cover. It works!
